I’ve been told I’ve got a good ear. I don’t think I have perfect pitch, but I know I’m not tone deaf. It’s kind of annoying being in the middle, but I suppose I’m just the norm. Where am I going with this? Usually I set my alarm to the radio. I’ve spent enough years waking up to that damn “ERH!! ERH!!” sound, so given another option I’ll take it. I don’t listen to the radio as much as I used to and this has become my main source for it. Of course being groggy it’s difficult for me to comprehend right away just what exactly it is I’m listening to. I already had the experience of hearing Lady Gaga‘s Born This Way being utterly confused why Express Yourself sounded so off. XD
I recently had another experience. This is starting to becoming a trend for me. Like I said, in my state of awakening I can’t tell heads or tails who is singing. Most times I default to thinking it’s a Rihanna song. If I was right she’d be played 70% of the time. XD I’ve heard Love Stereo (Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina) more times than I can count from my alarm. I had no idea who it was, but it actually gave for a pleasant waking experience. Would be more awesome if I was waking up in a beautiful villa in Morocco (pictured above). 😛 I’m not sure when the switch happened (I don’t keep up to date with music news), but my wake up song got replaced by J.Lo‘s On The Floor. And it confused the hell outta me! XD I’d heard the accordion melody and wonder where the hell the nice serene vocals were followed by, “Did he just rhyme donka-donk with Tonka truck? lol” It took me longer than I’d like to admit that these were two completely different songs…
Of course once I realized the accordion melodies were so close I went on the hunt for a mashup! They sound so good together. Better than each song on it’s own. I wish artists collaborated more than just some rap artist interjecting.
DJ Ryson – Love on the Stereo Floor
I had a hard time choosing what to put up here. I was going to put something more recent, but then I thought I should put up a prime example even though it’s a bit older. Then I thought, “fuck it” I’m gonna put 2 awesome mixes up. 😛
For the uninformed, these are mashups. Which means a bunch of songs butchered to death and put back together to create this awesome monster eargasam. The majority of the time I find myself preferring a mashup version of a song to the original. Sometimes they even drastically improve the original song to a point that it’s actually bearable to listen to hehe. As for “bootie” I could be wrong, but the full name of these types of songs is bootleg mashups. You can figure out the evolution from that.
Alright, MasaMixes has been around for awhile. He does a lot of K-Pop mashups. It’s unique in that I haven’t come across anyone else who does them and has done so many mixes. I’ve checked out his mixes from time to time in the past, but honestly the majority of them don’t interest me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not because they’re not good. I’m just not usually into the original material. BUT this summer that changed. His 2010 special mashup is perfectly executed in terms of flow, timing and catchy-ness. Not to mention I had the damn song stuck in my head for months. XD
You’ll notice it says pt. 1. Yes, I waited and waited for the time when pt. 2 would be released. I’m not gonna lie, I kinda looked forward to it at the end of the year. I tried not to get my expectations up too high because like most things that are great, it’s hard to replicate that same feeling. Mostly because they’re flukes heh. And this wouldn’t be any different. I wasn’t disappointed, but it didn’t blow me away either. It took a couple listens for it to grow on me and I grew to really dig it. It’s got good progression with nice breaks.
Btw if you can watch these in HD I would highly recommend it. Looks amazing 😀
